Movie Night May 6th

The Rossmoor LGBTQ+ Alliance welcomes all lesbian, gay, bisexual, non-binary, transgender, queer, questioning and other self-identifying members of the LGBTQ+ community along with our straight allies.

Since 2016, the Alliance has devoted itself to creating dedicated programming for the LGBTQ+ community and allies within Rossmoor.

In Rossmoor, one of the guiding principles of the Alliance is to create community: to conceive it, encourage it, produce it, and help sustain it within the context of growing old differently.

As LGBTQ+ seniors we’re still Engaged. Curious. Motivated. We’re asking “What’s Next? If you are looking for the “what’s next? Start here

Upcoming Events

Discovery Film Series

The May Discovery Film Series program focuses on the evolution of LGBTQ+ characters and their portrayal on television over the last five decades of the 20th century.  These portrayals showed slow and unsteady movement from bemusement to vilification to expanding visibility, then limited acceptance to positive characterizations (with notable regressions).

Using film clips and classic TV episodes, the program focuses specifically on Firsts:  the first recurring gay character, first depiction of a gay marriage, first lesbian main character, etc. Shows such as Milton Berle’s Texaco Star Theater, Barney Miller, Maude, and Mash are featured.

As with all programs in the Discovery Series, Queer Representation in Early Television invites the audience to address the question of how past and current characterizations of LGBTQ+ people in the media continue to impact the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals and culture.

Tuesday, May 6th

Queer Representation in Early Television

  • 5:30pm – Bring-your-own alfresco dinner @ Redwood Room in Gateway

  • 6:45pm - Presentation
