We are working for you!

The Alliance Board is hard at work planning, promoting and executing many activities throughout the year. Since its inception in 2016, the Alliance’s main goal was to plan and produce PRIDE celebrations during the month of June. Over the past three years, the current board has been extending programming throughout the rest of the calendar year.

Board Members

  • Alex Baccaro, Chair

Alex Baccaro moved to Rossmoor in 2009 with Becky, his life partner of 37 years. Prior to coming out as a transgender man 2021, Alex lived as an out lesbian all his adult life. He has always worked toward equality and social justice for women, people of color and the LGBTQ+ community. Alex spent the first 20 years of his career as a professional trumpet player and teacher. He was most impacted by being principal trumpet of the Women’s Philharmonic and working with low-income students as a trumpet teacher and college advisor. He can be seen most days somewhere in Rossmoor with his wonderful dog Moxie.

  • Darryl Wong, Vice Chair

Darryl moved to Rossmoor in 2023 and hit the ground running. He immediately joined the board of the Alliance and became an invaluable member. Darryl is retired from the NewYork City Department of Health where he was an HIV/AIDS Treatment & Care Strategic Community Planner. Darryl lives with his husband, Michael, of 40 years and is an avid cook.

  • Bob Brown, Interim Treasurer

Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, Bob Brown moved to San Francisco in 1978, where he held roles such as systems analyst, help desk supervisor, and project manager for companies like Firemen’s Fund Insurance, AT&T, and Clorox. He retired as a Senior Project Manager from Kaiser Permanente in September 2017. Bob married his husband, Norm Lynde, in 2018, and they moved to Rossmoor in July 2025. In San Francisco, Bob was active with LGBTQ+ organizations and chaired the board of The Family Link, a non-profit organization supporting families caring for loved ones with serious illnesses. Bob is excited to be part of the Alliance and getting involved in Rossmoor’s LGBTQ+ community.

  • Dylan Miles, Secretary

Dylan moved to Rossmoor in 2025, and is very happy to have found the Alliance! In his former life he’s done a variety of things, including co-founding the Transgender Law Center, mediating divorces, and in recent years, teaching third grade. He loves plants, art, writing, bunnies, rats, hiking, bicycling, and connections with heartful people.

  • Kristen Lee, Membership

Kristen grew up in Orinda and is a third generation Rossmoorian as her (Snow Birds from New York) grandparents had a place on Skycrest and her mom was an original owner in Eagle Ridge. Kristen bought her mom’s place during the pandemic and retired from being a Palo Alto middle school Teacher Librarian in June, 2025 after having been a Palo Alto educator since 1989. Kristen was her middle school’s GSA Club Advisor (and founding staff member), and she is thrilled to join the Rossmoor LGBTQ+ Alliance as its first ally board member. She is passionate about education and advocacy and besides the LGBTQ+ Alliance, she is the Welcome Committee Chair of Mutual 68. In her non-leadership time she bakes, reads, knits, square dances, line dances,  plays pickleball, works out at the Fitness Center, does qigong with the Chinese American Association of Rossmoor, participates in Democrats of Rossmoor activities and watches KDramas and CDramas. Most of all, she loves traveling, eating vegetarian food from all different cultures, and spending time with her daughter Sondrine, her son Austin, and her sisters Laurel and Erika.

  • Journey deVries

Journey moved to Rossmoor in 2023.  They heard about the Alliance not long after moving and found a home as a non-binary gender fluid activist.  They raised their three daughters just over the hill in Lafayette and live with their life partner, a jazz musician you can sometimes hear play at concerts here at Rossmoor.  They are a retired high school teacher and are active in Buddhist and Jewish groups in the area.  They love to play bocce, cook, dance and meditate.

  • Carmencita Lozano

Carmencita Lozano, artist and noise maker, can often be found laughing and floating with her Pool Peeps or swinging from a hammock on her patio or under the birch trees at Dollar.  Her singing, drumming, creating and cooking draw inspiration from childhood memories of lively family gatherings in Puerto Rico.

After leaving the the Alliance board in 2019, Carmencita stepped up her participation with B’nai Israel of Rossmoor and the Jewish Community Chorus. During the pandemic shutdown, creating music, making videos and drumming along with musicians on You Tube  kept most of the scary thoughts away.

Over the years the Lesbionic gatherings around her hammock have given birth to many ideas that have contributed to keeping  Rossmoor Queers connected -- e.g., Salsa on the Plaza, Valentine deliveries, Reverse Trick or Treating,  Latkes & Lesbians, etc.

Moving to Rossmoor ten years ago with her partner, Laurie Salen, continues to fill their lives with blessings.
